Krabi - A place I would return to again and again

After all my travels through various countries where I had never really been to the ocean, my stay in Krabi at the beginning of January 2025 was just perfect. I was longing to finally spend several days by the sea, soak up the sun and just relax after all the adventures and excursions I'd been on in other countries. The fact that my best friend from Switzerland was visiting me made the time even more special. Together we decided to spend the first few days just relaxing on the beach and enjoying the warm climate.
We had already booked our hotel in advance as we knew exactly how many days we wanted to stay in Krabi. An absolute heartfelt recommendation: the Phu Pha Ao Nang Resort. This hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the beach, but offers a quiet oasis with a light jungle vibe. Perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of Krabi and having a little retreat.
Beach, sun and mocktails The first few days flew by. But of course we also wanted to explore the surrounding area and decided to take a day trip to Koh Rok Island.
Day trip to Koh Rok - a dream in turquoise
The small island is located near Koh Lanta, but is less touristy. We booked the tour directly on site at a tour office, which is definitely worth it if you can negotiate well. We were picked up early in the morning at 7am in a minivan and taken to the harbor - a two-hour drive. There we had a short briefing and a small but nice breakfast. The boat trip to the first island was bumpy and definitely not for the faint-hearted (or sensitive stomachs). But it was worth the effort! While snorkeling, we were able to observe countless colourful fish, and the white sandy beach with the crystal blue water looked like something out of a picture book. After a delicious lunch on the island, we went back into the water for a short diving stop before heading back to the harbor in the late afternoon. A truly perfect day to escape the crowded islands.
Hong Island - The flip side of paradise
The next day, a tour to Hong Island was on the agenda. Unfortunately, the experience was the exact opposite of the day before. The islands were overcrowded and it wasn't even fun to go into the sea. Exactly the same applied to the famous Phi Phi Island, which is why we decided without further ado not to do this tour at all. Instead, we simply enjoyed our time by the sea, relaxing and drinking fresh smoothies.

Spontaneous trip to Phuket
We liked Krabi so much that we even stayed two days longer. On one of the last days, we spontaneously decided to take a day trip to Phuket. The trip there took about 2 hours and 30 minutes by car. Phuket immediately seemed livelier and as we were there on a Sunday, we had the pleasure of experiencing the Sunday evening market on the street. The atmosphere was fantastic, there was delicious food and lots of stalls. In the early morning we took a cab back to Krabi - this cost us around 60 CHF.
Krabi has quickly become one of my favorite places in Thailand. It's not a party town like Phuket, but it has an incredible amount of charm and a huge variety of activities on offer. It is also a very family-friendly destination. The city offers just the right mix of relaxation and adventure. And once you've been there, you'll understand why it's so hard to leave.
